Calling Centrifugal Pump Users & Specifiers
The Hydraulic Institute (HI), under the approval of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), is seeking qualified individuals in North America to participate in the review process for the draft updated Standard ANSI/HI 1.4 Rotodynamic (Centrifugal) Pumps for Manuals Describing Installation, Operation, and Maintenance. Interested individuals and organizations directly and materially affected by this standard, including pump users and specifiers, are asked to e-mail Karen Anderson, at kanderson@pumps.org, or call (973) 267-9700 x123.
Gas-Lubricated Seals
Centrifugal pump users can install EagleBurgmann’s double Cartex® GSDN bi-directional gas-lubricated seals to standardize new units or recondition existing ones that have conventional stuffing box packings or liquid-lubricated mechanical seals. This new product line has been designed so that seat and shaft sleeve rotate along with the pump shaft, while the springs remain stationary. Internal pressurization together with centrifugal forces create a self-cleaning effect at the sliding faces during ongoing operation. This prevents harmful contamination and increases operational reliability, especially in applications where the media contains solids. The manufacturer notes that these seals remain closed and balanced, even in critical situations during startup and shutdown, as well as if a fault occurs in the buffer gas supply.
