Schneider Electric’s Insight Cloud Platform Continues to Grow

Jane Alexander | October 4, 2017

Schneider Electric (Lake Forest, CA) is continuing to expand its cloud platform Insight, powered by Wonderware Online. As a company announcement notes, a new Insight Performance module provides Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) monitoring, asset utilization analysis and downtime tracking in the cloud.

Insight Performance empowers operators with data-driven KPIs and real-time visibility into equipment performance through an intuitive, user-friendly interface. Built-in analysis capabilities enable cross-plant equipment benchmarking that delivers actionable intelligence to effectively increase equipment performance and operating efficiency. With greater access to key metrics, including anywhere, anytime and on any device, users can quickly identify and share best practices to drive process and production improvements across their operations.

According to Schneider Electric, this particular Software as a Service (SaaS) offering accelerates time-to-value through rapid provisioning and application configuration while reducing on-premise infrastructure and total cost of ownership. Features/capabilities include:

  1. Light-weight applications that are easier to install, configure, and maintain
  2. Virtually no on-premises servers or hardware requirement, significantly reducing cost and complexity.

Schneider Electric’s cloud-deployment model leverages conventional or IoT edge devices to collect operational data, sending information directly to a hosted online environment, bypassing the usual layers while remaining secure. Following this model, Insight Performance opens new opportunities for facilities with semi-automated or manual operations to expand their footprint and achieve results previously considered not possible.

Insight Performance is the first operations and execution management module of the quickly advancing Insight platform. Production, Quality, Inventory, Asset Management and Visualization functionality is anticipated in the near future. This offering includes cloud and hybrid deployment models that can leverage edge and Industrial IoT devices for mission critical, real-time requirements, as well as add value to existing, on-premises Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
