Overhead Cranes

EP Editorial Staff | June 16, 2020

The S-series overhead cranes use synthetic rope and a tilted hoist drum for capacities to 6.3 tons.

Unlike a traditional wire-rope hoist, the design is said to prevent ropes from crossing. Fleet angles remain straight all the way up to the drum, preventing the block from twisting as it sometimes does on a wire-rope hoist. The cranes have a hook-block design that includes more long-wearing composite parts, estimated to last 45% longer than steel. Because the rope is made of synthetic material, the drum does not need lubrication, reducing maintenance costs.

The main girder uses a sliding connection that allows the end truck to automatically adjust itself on the runway, reducing wheel and runway wear. It is adjustable in cases of span misalignment or out-of-tolerance runways. Safety features include snag prevention, hook centering, and Follow Me, which help speed operations while protecting employees and infrastructure.
